What Are Gutters?
Gutters are hollow pipes that are installed around the edges of a roof. Rain water is collected which then goes through a system, this includes downspouts, which eventually redirect the water away from the building’s foundation. Gutters play a critical role in preventing water damage, erosion and flooding.
1.Water Damage
Usually during or after rainfall, water starts to collect at the foundation or hitting the side of the building. This can start to cause structural issues that may include settling or cracks. Exterior building walls can also suffer from water damage, leading to it having dry rot, molding, staining or warping. Gutters allow the water to be directed away from the home, else where to help prevent the home being affected.
2. Erosion
Soil erosion is caused by rainwater that falls directly on to the building if there isn’t proper drainage. The flowers, plants and cement are all effected by this erosion because it weakens the soils or causes staining to the cement. With downspouts, the water can be aimed at different areas to prevent this from happening.
3. Flooding
Houses that have basements can experience flooding. Soil around the building of the house starts to be wet and overtime the water may start to seep into it, causing flooding. This creates mold and mildew growth, posing potential health risks.
