Are Gutters Necessary?

In a short answer to this question, yes but it’s not recommended. Gutters provide protection to many parts of a home.

Home Foundation

A homes foundation is prone to getting damaged by water, especially if it starts to form pools which causes erosion, cracks and even flooding in basements. This can cause expensive structural damage down the road. Gutters assist in directing rainwater away from the home.

Roof and Fascia

When it rains, water tends to start collecting on the roof’s edge. If there are no gutters to help direct the water away from the roof,  then it can lead to mold, rot and deterioration on the fascia board. The roof can eventually start weakening because of such damage.

Landscape

Landscaping is typically made to enhance the beauty of the home. No gutters on a home could mean that water is not directed to the right areas which can cause soil to wash away, along with causing damage to plants.

Siding

Over time, uncontrolled water can cause discoloration, mildew, and even rot on your exterior walls. This not only affects the appearance of your home, but also its value and structural integrity. Gutters protect your siding from staining, peeling paint, and moisture damage.
