The Ultimate Checklist For Gutters Before the Rainy Season

Rainy Season Gutter Checklist

As the rainy season approches, preparing your gutters is essential to protect your home from potential water damage. A little maintenance now, can save you from costly repairs later. Here’s a through checklist to get your gutters rain-ready:

Clean Gutters

What to do:  Remove debris by clearing out any leaves, twigs and any other debris that may be causing blockages and stopping rainwater to run freely.  After removing the debris, using a garden hose and flushing out any remaining dirt out of your gutters. This helps reveal any leaks or issues that might be hidden

Inspecting Gutters

What to do:  It's important to examine your gutters for any possible signs of damage or wear. Small cracks may seem like not a big deal but they can worsen with heavier rainflow that can cause leaks or overflow.  Next, examine your seams, these are the spots that are prone to leaks or cracks. Resealing or replacing the problem sections would prevent water from escaping.

Securing Gutters

What to do:  Over the course of some time screws and nails can loosen due to weather and weight from debris. Make sure they are tightened to keep the gutters stable.

Gutter Guards

Gutter Guards or screens can help keep leaves and larger debris out while allowing rainwater to pass through. This can reduce the frequency of clean outs.

Check Downspouts

What to do:  Clogs in downspouts can cause clogs. Using a plumbers snake or hose can help clear it out.
